just tried to ash a biscuit ffs
met/chatted to a guy i’m potentially moving in with next year last night, producer/dj type, really made me think how little we have in common when it comes to getting our music out there. He’s of the opinion that success is 50% down to image and promotion is everything. I get that, i know exactly where he’s coming from but to me it completely misses the point. i guess i always just wanted to put music out there and see what happens, see if anyone likes the vibe and goes with it. i don’t want people to only hear my stuff because they saw a b&w photo of me spammed on my fb with a link to my soundcloud or whatever. i don’t give a fuck if people know it’s me because as far as i see it, it isn’t me, it’s music. i love the idea of people who don’t like me enjoying my music, not in an egotistical sense, just in the way that anyone who likes it should be free to like it. i think music can be tainted by synonymising it with a person, individual interpretation seems to break down. i like the idea of music talking directly to you, not me talking directly to you. obviously you can’t just put a track on an anonymous soundcloud and wait for labels to pick it up, i post occasionally where likeminded people might see it don’t get me wrong. but then i hold a vague hope that people on here/twitter care about the kind of music i make.
i can’t say i know why i wrote this, no objection to living with the guy whatsoever, i guess the converstation played on my mind on the train back to london.
goodnight
